چکیده

This paper focuses on regular traveling waves, or waves that propagate smoothly, in a one-dimensional network of theta neurons. We show that when coupling strength is sufficiently large, there exist two traveling wave solutions for this network. Moreover, the cells in the network spike more than one time after joining the wave; that is, some form of synaptic depression or other adaptive mechanism must exist to attain single-spike traveling waves. We also present results about how the behavior of solutions to this network depends on the maximal synaptic coupling strength and the wave speed. This is relevant to consideration of uniqueness and to bounding the range of coupling strengths for which waves exist.

Two dimensional synaptically generated traveling waves in a theta-neuron neural network

This paper extends some of the previous work on synaptically generated traveling waves from one dimension to two dimensions. Numerical simulations of networks of the so-called theta neurons were used for exploration of the existence, stability and the nature of these waves. The symmetric nature of the traveling waves was justi"ed and a numerical scheme for evaluating the velocity of the traveli...

Traveling Theta Waves in the Human Hippocampus.

The hippocampal theta oscillation is strongly correlated with behaviors such as memory and spatial navigation, but we do not understand its specific functional role. One hint of theta's function came from the discovery in rodents that theta oscillations are traveling waves that allow parts of the hippocampus to simultaneously exhibit separate oscillatory phases. Because hippocampal theta oscill...

Traveling waves in a one-dimensional integrate-and-#re neural network with #nite support connectivity

We study the existence of traveling waves in a one-dimensional network of integrate-and-#re neurons with #nite support coupling. We show that when the reset after spiking is su2ciently low, the interspike intervals (ISIs) for a traveling wave with an explicit #rst wave front can be computed. Further, we analytically derive a self-consistency equation that generates an explicit dispersion relati...

Traveling waves in a one-dimensional integrate-and-fire neural network with finite support connectivity

We study the existence of traveling waves in a one-dimensional network of integrateand-fire neurons with finite support coupling. We show that when the reset after spiking is sufficiently low, the interspike intervals (ISIs) for a traveling wave with an explicit first wave front can be computed. Further, we analytically derive a self-consistency equation that generates an explicit dispersion re...

A neural mass model of CA1-CA3 neural network and studying sharp wave ripples

We spend one third of our life in sleep. The interesting point about the sleep is that the neurons are not quiescent during sleeping and they show synchronous oscillations at different regions. Especially sharp wave ripples are observed in the hippocampus. Here, we propose a simple phenomenological neural mass model for the CA1-CA3 network of the hippocampus considering the spike frequency adap...
